5 Reasons to Join RDF’s Community Mural Painting Day

We’re hosting a paint day at our office! You’re invited to join us on Saturday, October 7th to paint a mural on our property wall from 8am – 2pm.  

Early this year, Raza Development Fund received a South-Central Extension/ Downtown Hub Art grant from Valley Metro aimed to enrich the community through arts and culturally based projects while adding colorful artistry along the upcoming light rail extension area.  

Now it’s time to bring this art to life!  

Local artist, Maria Madrid Reed, known for her recent work for the City of Goodyear and City of Tolleson’s new Civic Center, has sketched an intricate design highlighting our South Phoenix community life with transit, businesses, homes and more.  

But we need YOUR help to paint it in!  

Why should you join us?  

  1. You can help us share RDF’s message of hope for a sustainable community.  

This mural is more than a great painting. We worked with Maria to create a concept showcasing solar energy as a tool for a sustainable community.  

“We are so excited for the community to join us to add artistic vibrancy to our property while celebrating solar energy,” Annie Donovan, RDF’s President & CEO said. “At Raza Development Fund we believe in solar energy’s economic, health, and environmental benefits. It is an impactful tool to build sustainable communities for a prosperous future.”   

Through the image, the sun’s rays touch every aspect that makes our South Phoenix thrive. With a brush, and a dash of creativity, you can paint in this landscape to bring our message of hope to life.  

“It’s a great honor for me to be a part of this mural project that will help bring awareness about solar energy in our community. Solar power is within reach more than ever, and how we use it will impact us in the short term with lower electric bills, as well as long term as we contribute to a more sustainable environment for our children’s future,” Maria Madrid Reed said. 

2. Be Part of a Community Project  

We are opening our doors to inviting as many community members as possible. While this project will reside on our property wall, this beautiful art piece will exist for everyone to enjoy as they live, work and visit in South Phoenix. Connect with your neighbors to add this vibrant tapestry to the area.  

3. Enjoy a Day of Family Fun  

We welcome all ages to join us for paint day! Bring the kids and enjoy an artistic day together. No experience necessary. Directions will be provided in a paint by numbers style.  

 4. Fit it Into Your Schedule  

While we are hosting this paint day from 8am-2pm, we don’t expect everyone to be there the entire time. You can volunteer for a specific time frame that works best for you and your family.  

 5. Get to Know Raza Development Fund  

Our headquarters is in South Phoenix, because we believe in serving from the heart of our community. We welcome you in to get to know us. Paint with us while you meet our RDF staff members and leaders.

Canned Food Drive: Raza Development Fund is also organizing a canned food drive to help ensure families in need have a delicious Thanksgiving this year. We are accepting canned food donations in our front lobby until Friday, November 3rd. Please consider adding those great Thanksgiving sides like green beans.
